In honour of the Offshore Technology Conference, each year, World Pipelines&rsquo; April issue includes updates from oil and gas pipeline companies working offshore around the world. In addition to the issue&rsquo;s general offshore focus, a number of companies are invited to participate in the annual Offshore Technology Review, which offers insights into global offshore pipeline activities. Read on to see what Jee has been up to. With its capabilities spanning the complete pipeline project lifecycle, Jee (UK) offers support from design, through integrity management and pigging, to lifetime extension and decommissioning. The company also offers courses and training programmes that are focused on offshore pipelines, which are held regularly in Houston (Texas) and Aberdeen (Scotland). The company&rsquo;s recent scopes in the midstream sector include significant plugging engineering assurance and project management support.In the North Sea region in particular, over the past year, Jee has seen a number of clients planning to repair or replace ageing pig trap valves or emergency shutdown valves (ESDVs) on major export pipelines. Requiring alternative pipeline isolation options during rectification activities and considering the serious consequences of a failed plugging operation, these clients have often requested Jee to provide third-party assurance to vendor tendering and selection, detailed engineering review of tool designs, review of tool vendor procedures and testing, as well as assessment of the risks and piggability issues associated with the plugging operation. The company provides similar assurance to challenging pigging operations, including the use of subsea launchers and receivers, more complex bidirectional and crawler operations, as well as the provision of offshore site management of inline inspection (ILI) operations.The company has also seen an increase in demand for its structural reliability assessment (SRA) tool. This engineering assessment tool allows engineers to draw conclusions regarding the condition of a pipeline based on partial wall thickness inspection data. In instances where ILI data is partial or unavailable, data from external spot inspections at high risk locations can be used to probabilistically predict the corrosion condition of the rest of the line and can help to assure operators that their pipelines are safe to operate if data is not fully available. The tool is particularly useful in supporting the NACE Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment (ICDA) process.Jee&rsquo;s late life service division has been growing significantly, with increased demand for its decommissioning services and several lifetime extension assessments being performed for both rigid and flexible pipelines that are nearing the end of their design lives. The company has managed the execution phase of a number of decommissioning projects in the southern North Sea, while also supporting clients with determining their decommissioning strategy and the development of their decommissioning programmes prior to offshore execution. Over the past year, Jee has also supported clients with the management of their disused and out of service pipelines, submitting disused pipeline notifications and challenging the inspection frequencies of those in the interim pipe regime to account for the reduced risks to society when no longer operational and purged of hydrocarbons.In 2017, Jee expects to see further growth in its late life division. While it has a number of lifetime extension assessments already lined up for the year ahead, the company will continue to manage offshore decommissioning works while increasing its support offering in the planning phases of decommissioning projects. Jee also has several complex pigging and plugging projects coming up, where the company will support the management and mitigation of its clients&rsquo; execution risks as far as possible.Looking to the year aheadJonathan McGregor, Director at Jee Ltd, said: &ldquo;The biggest challenge of 2017 for Jee will be knowing when to invest and increase its fixed costs. While the company has been affected by the oil price decline and volatility, in recent months, Jee has seen a significant improvement in sales and revenue growth, which has led to positive growth planning. However, in general, confidence in the industry remains incredibly low and any negative price swings may rapidly affect clients&rsquo; appetite to commission work. With this in mind, it is important to increase capacity in order to meet clients&rsquo; needs.
